Which Type of RVer Are You?
I saw this article recently in the SKP’s travel magazine – comparing short term and Full time RVers to caterpillars that either accept or reject a metamorphosis to fully embrace the RV lifestyle.
“Some are too afraid,” it said regarding caterpillars, “to go through the metamorphosis, and some are quite content to remain caterpillars-eating their way through skin changes until a predator finds them and eats them.”
“Like those caterpillars, some people prefer the security of the familiar status quo where there is less chance of fear of the unknown. They never quite muster the courage to take that scary leap into the world of RV travel because of the possible embarrassment of failure. (How do you know if your wings will work?) More important is the cost, both monetary and emotional. (How can you leave family and friends for months at a time?) So they continue living their own version of the caterpillar stage of life.”
By way of comment, it takes a bunch of courage and/or a big desire for adventure to make the full or almost full time RV plunge. Having embraced the lifestyle myself some years ago in my youth, I am always amazed at the retired couples AND working parents who jump into these, at times, scary waters of RVing. The learning curve for the maintenance so different from a traditional house, getting used to the physical closeness you experience with your travel mates and the lack of space to collect or hold onto things are all challenges. I lasted for 6 years but I was young and crazy. Hats off to all of our Hidden Vallians who visit often and stay for extended bits of the year. We applaud your sense of adventure and are happy to have lots of RV Butterflies at Hidden Valley RV Park.
